Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin

On Monday the 22nd, I had the opportunity to see Someone Loves You Boris Yeltsin at Webster Hall. I received a press pass for this show because I wrote an article for the Washington Square News! My friend Maryam also went to this show and since she is besties with the band, we got to talk with them afterwards.

SAGE Awards Gala

On October 21, 2013 I had the pleasure of attending the SAGE Awards Gala at Gotham Hall! SAGE is an LGBT organization that seeks to improve the lives of LGBT adults. More can be read about the gala and the organization itself here: http://nyunews.com/2013/10/22/windsor/

My specific purpose for attending this gala was to take pictures of the award ceremony, and the overall event. While completing my duties for the Washington Square News, I also sampled a variety of cocktails and tasty hors d'oeuvres. The food was delicious, and the venue was absolutely stunning! During the entire process, I couldn't help but think that I would love to have my wedding reception at Gotham Hall...but I guess we'll have to see where the next ten years take me in terms of love/relationships.

Stay classy and fabulous,
Karen

Classy Dining at Jane

Karen and I dined here on October 19th to conclude our busy day of visiting the Met and hanging out with Hannah. The salmon avocado tartare was an amazing starter dish and the two entrees were delicious as well. Definitely a restaurant to come back to again.

On the menu:
SALMON AND AVOCADO TARTARE: soy-wasabi citronette, wonton crisps
BUTTERNUT SQUASH RISOTTO: apple smoked bacon, crispy sage, shallot, mascarpone, herbs
JANE BURGER: cheddar, double smoked bacon, sautéed onion, pickled tomato, special sauce, fries
BELLINI COCKTAIL: champagne, white peach puree

Stay hungry,
Stephanie

A Splash of Color

On the same day we went to the Met, October 19th, our friend Hannah from the University of Maryland visited us in the city! We got Argo Tea, relaxed at Washington Square Park and ate flower gelato from our favorite place, Amorino. It was so nice to be reunited with one of our close friends from high school. Can't wait to visit her in Maryland!

Metropolitan Mornings

On October 19, 2013, Stephanie, Matt and I traveled over 70 blocks uptown to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Stephanie has an upcoming term paper for her Middle East Cultures class, so we made a point to check out the Islamic art exhibit. It was really nice spending our morning perusing the art galleries and taking pictures. During my time at NYU, I definitely want to explore more exhibits and check out more museums!

Stay lovely,
Karen

Goorin Brother's Second Anniversary Party

On Friday the 18th, Karen and I attended the Goorin Brother's Second Anniversary Party. They're a really nice and fancy hat shop located in West Village. At the party, they served s'mores hand blown with a torch on the spot and fancy cocktails (rum, ginger beer and citrus accents).

Stay classy,
Stephanie

West Village Food Tour

Our food tour began at Profettos, a cute little Italian shop located in the heart of West Village. Here, we sampled the tastiest pumpkin ravioli with sage butter (as depicted in the pictures). Our faculty fellow, who doubled as the leader of the tour, also grabbed some truffle ravioli and arugula and ricotta ravioli for our "end of tour dinner". I highly reccommend ravioli from this shop, it's practically life changing (Stephanie had 22 pieces)!
After Profettos, we found ourselves in Faicco's, an Italian butcher shop known for their variety of sausages. Here, we sampled sweet sopressatta and rice balls (and I can't wait to go back for more)! According to our faculty fellow, they serve some awesome hoagies, so I definitely have to check those out in the near future.
We also wandered into a cheese store, where we sampled foregras and truffle spreads on bread. For our dinner, our faculty fellow bought a selection of olives, parmesan cheese, and baguettes. Interestingly enough, I almost stole these two baguettes from the store, just call me 24601. If you don't get the Les Mis reference, I suggest you watch the movie ASAP!
Our tour ended at Rocco's, where we picked up cannoli for dessert! During our senior year, Stephanie and I would plan sporadic trips to this Italian bakery in Plainsboro, and these cannoli were very reminiscent of that.

The "End of Tour Dinner" Menu
Truffle ravioli with freshly grated parmesan cheese
Arugula and ricotta with pesto, tomato and basil sauce
Roasted cauliflower
Broccoli rabe

Shakira in the Park

On October 9th, Stephanie and I had the opportunity to go to a free Shakira concert (thanks to our lovely friend Cimrin)! It was so nice to be in Bryant Park with the bright lights, trees, and cityscape all around us. Jamming out to "Hips Don't Lie" and "Waka Waka" was also a major plus! These two songs were major throwbacks, and it was nice to hear them being performed live.

Happy adventuring,
Karen

Daughter

On October 5th, I went to see Daughter at Terminal 5 with my bestie Devan. The first time I saw them was around May this year at the Bowery Ballroom so it's cool to see them growing bigger. I didn't decide to go until literally five days before but Daughter is one of my top two favorite bands so I was so happy I went to see them again.

With love,
Stephanie
